sure this has nothing to do about music. di ko lang matiis (hehehe).
i would like to ask if anybody from our music-oriented group is also a camera aficionado, or is prolly just trigger-happy like me, ehehehe.

i started to learn through my handy-dandy canon powershot a400, then eventually thought of reusing the family's film slr minolta alpha 101si which has been gathering dust because everybody has his/her own digicam na. am currently struggling to learn stuff on the technical part of the craft (adjustments on aperture, shutter-speed, ISO - madaya sa digicam). and am currently looking for the family's good ol' yashieca. bigla-bigla akong nacute-an sa mga lumang camera na iniignore ko lang dati. hehehe. nonetheless, i am still dreaming to have my own canon eos (pero gusto ko yung astronomical, ahaha).

photography-aficionados, sound off naman jan o!

Ako hobbyist lang. I suggest you take a short course to learn the ins and outs of your camers's manual settings. Knowing how to use your camera in manual mode makes you more creative in sa far as lighting is concerned, specially with film.
Happy shooting

Am into photography, too...yun nga lang, panay mga point-and-shoot pa lang yung mga camera ko, panay hiram pa. I'll be having my own camera soon (my mom's Casio Exilim S-750), and apparently it has some of the basic features I'm looking for an entry-level camera (plus 7 megapixels pa sya, which isn't bad)...especially yung manual aperture mode, yun ang talagang hanap ko. I can't wait to build my own portfolio na! :)

when i was in college, love ko rin ang photography. but since i don't have my own camera and it's a bit expensive hindi na ako nagtuloy.

anyway, here's a link to a basic photography tutorials (http://www.silverlight.co.uk/tutorials/). hope you like it. enjoy! ;)

Ako rin hobby ko photography, but not really the hardcore technical nitty-gritty level of photography (SLR stuff and all that). I've been fascinated with LOMOGRAPHY (http://www.lomography.com) for quite some years now but was able to practice it around mid-last year. :)

Thanks Bro Butch! Puro nga kalumaan gusto ko. Ewan ko ba...I love the retro-ish aspect of it siguro. And may element of surprise, kase nga old models, so alam mong hindi pa ganun ang level ng specs as the new cameras we have now. And sometimes, yung mga light leaks, vignettes, and the other "faulty" stuffs, surprisingly, can add some character to the pics.

Nice! :)

Ako as much as possible, gusto ko tao ang subjects ko. Frustrated street photographer here. Hehe. Eh I don't think I have the guts pa to be a super shutterbug in the streets kaya paminsan-minsan lang ako kumukuha. :P

May kilala ako dito na super into photography. Si webmaster Carlo. Hehe. Check his pics on his website: www.nargalzius.com - astig mga kuha niya. Ganda pa ng camera. Hehehe! ;)

hola! dami pala photographers dito. sabagay, mukha nga yatang madalas magkasama ang music at photography...hashpipe ganda ng collection mo ng cameras.

ako like titopao hobbyist din lang. tagal ko na gusto magkaron ng digital SLR kaya lang la pa budget e. camera ko ngayon cybershot lang. tao ang gusto kong subjects, lalo na babies and kids. and i'm into details din (architectural, landscapes, portraits and human body parts). ang galing kasi lalo na kapag pinaglaruan mo yung lighting. i'm not so much into effects, mas gusto ko yung natural. pero lighting effects, ok lang.

salamat koya hashpipe. teehee!

=) fast point and shoot pero creative... hehehe...

the thrill that old cameras give is the fact that you still have to wait for the film roll to finish and be developed just to know if you've had a real good shot.

masaya, masaya... hehehe.

For me, there's nothing like instant gratification... Digital, to be able to check and correct your settings for maximum effect.

Sometimes you can't go back to where you took that nice landscape because it was a once-in-a-lifetime-trip and your photo on film was over/under exposed and which the printer will either reject or print as is with no corrections unless you specify.

but that's just me.

Film, does have it's advantages though and I do have a film SLR if I need it. It's been gathering dust lately, though.

Ako mahilig as a hobby lang. I don't think I have enough cash (and contacts) to support it as a profession. Though I did put in quite an investment to start on the right right foot (Canon 20D, etc. etc.)

In any case, I have a gallery (http://www.nargalzius.com/gallery/set.php?/72157600064269555) as well.

Hahaha... my pyk, pyk, pyk thread na pala dito. Makikisali na rin po ako.
Way back in college, I was taking up business course minor in communications. Parts of the course were subject on basic photography and video productions. So, it became a hobby and all throughout college I wanted to do black and white photography. Black and white because it was the basic medium for photographers to develop know-how in dark room developing during the pre-digital, photography age. Seeing my own photos processed was exciting. My subjects were mostly cats, family members and friends. So may mga panahon na kina-career ko talaga pagpikchur it all depends then on the circumstances. I take photographs the way I want to remember the things I see and not the way I think other people would want to see it.

uy, i've always wanted to go into photography kaya lang magastos, lalo na nung di pa uso mga digicam, kailangan pa bumili ng film at ipa-develop. i just bought my first digicam last saturday, a sony cyber-shot, entry level lang, ala masyado budget eh. i bought it from one of the shops in hidalgo street dun sa may carriedo, bandang likod ng sm, sa henry's ata. now i can point and shoot as many times as i want nang di na kailangan pa magpa-develop, ehehehe. at 7.2mp more or less eh 2.8mb per pic pero saksak na lang nang saksak sa pc hanggang mapuno ang hard disk. ahihihi.

mejo op tapik:
grabe talaga mark-up ng prices dito sa pinas, i bought my camera (dsc-w55) for 10,500 petot, ang SRP nito sa sony philippines website eh 19,999 petot pero ang SRP sa US eh 199.99USD. grabecious, bale 9,169.54PHP lang yun ngayon ayon sa xe.com. tiningnan ko sa abenson at sm eh SRP ang ginagamit na presyo kaya ayun mahal. hayz.

Kuya G. pareho tayo, laging nasa likod ng cam kaya bihira makunan ng pic, oks lang sakin, di ako photogenic eh. :)

Das_Sein
07.06.06, 05:39 PM
hidalgo's the place for photog. equipments. magaling silang mag-ayos ng mga lumang cam, lalo na yung mga vintage na SLRs.

kuya G,

kuya bonnie,
di po ako kagalingan sa photog. i have friends who are better, and seeing their photos is such a humbling experience. hehehe. as for me, marunong lang po. :)

Ano ba magandang brand ng digicam ngayon?

Das_Sein
07.06.15, 08:32 AM
I go for Canon Powershot from the feature-friendly A-series up to the high-end shooting modes and creative features of Digital ELPH (SD series). Pag naman DSLR, oks ang EOS Digital SLR series but i'm also okay with Nikon.

although, what i have here for point and shoot is Canon Powershot A400 (4 years old na sya) and a Minolta SLR alpha 101si (film camera, namana ko sa mama ko hehehe).

yuanbautista
07.06.15, 09:28 PM
Meron akong Canon IXY700 digicam. Okey naman ang kuha. May technique ba para sa digital photography?

Das_Sein
07.06.15, 10:21 PM
kuya doods, marami ba ang dalawa? hahaha.

kuya yuan, pag pang- point and shoot po ang digicam, pwedeng timplahin sa setting ang aperture, shutter speed and ISO. you just have to play with combinations by pressing buttons. focus shouldnt be a problem because it's always automatic with a digicam, madalas the lcd can show you kung saan ang focus, and sometimes even the location of your focus within the rule of thirds. pero kung SLR yung digicam, you have to go through the thrill of adjusting things without the aid of an lcd, silip-silip lang. hehehe.

for me, learning photography means starting with a manual SLR. para sa akin, the best yung isa sa mga 1970s version ng olympus (i'll tell the model pag nacheck ko na), mabigat pero masarap pagtimplahan ng specs. =)

yuanbautista
07.06.15, 11:47 PM

Kuya G.

Kuya G.
07.06.21, 09:51 AM

koya hashpipe,

pang-point and shoot sila diba? hehehe, and film cam ba? i love the precision of colors. kung film, anong ISO po ng film ang ginamit? gusto ko yung kulay... asteeg.

hashpipe
07.06.26, 04:42 AM
Yep, point and shoot at parehas na film cam. Yung Pen EE-2, may film speed/aperture dial to complement your film and/or external flash.

For daylight use only.

Cross-processed sya kaya may shift of colors (greenish).

Para makapag-display ng images dito sa board, you need to use the IMG tag. Eto example:

[img.]URL of the picture[/img.]

Hehe. :P

*****
me tanong pala ako, i was playing with my sister's digicam (Sony T10) at sa mga ibang shots e lumabo ang background (which i LOVE) and sa ibang shots naman e malabo ang center while the background is full.

tinitignan ko yung settings at auto mode sya.

how on earth can i make every shot ganun sa isa na malabo ang background?

salamat photo guru.

hashpipe
07.06.26, 06:16 AM
Baka naka-MACRO setting?

Basically, MACRO setting is for close-up shots.

;)

Das_Sein

07.06.26, 10:34 AM
Das, I'm loco for lomo! LOL! Hehehe. My cams here are either official lomography cameras or lomo alternatives. But the most important thing for me is that I get to practice the philosophy of it. Yung don't think just shoot, experiment, shoot from the hip, etc...

Regarding film speed, ang basic idea lang is, the higher the ISO/ASA, the more sensitive it is to light (fast film). So lower ISO/ASA means the film is less sensitive sa light (slow film). If you're gonna shoot people or things in action (like sports events, etc...), you should get a higher ISO film (400 to 800).

Hehe! :P

I like your photos, especially the second one. Feeling ko may kwento yung bata. Hehe. :D

Photo trip anyone?! :P

Das_Sein
07.06.26, 12:58 PM
Thanks koya hashpipe. :D I dunno if my ol' yashica here can be a lomo alternative, hehehe pero i'd like to have your Olympus Pen hehehe, asteeeg. i used high ISO with the second pic, the basic el cheapo Kodak ISO 400. Totoo ba?

Sure, sure... phototrip. Kaisa mo ako jan!. :D

koya hashpipe and co., i am hesitant with this shot. produkto ito ng kodak 200, indoor shot (simbahan, gabi pa). sayang yung enigma nung subject at focus tsaka yung panoramic mode, (minolta alpha si101) gamit ko. share ko lang, comment po kayo. alam kong may mali sa film hehe.

Maganda sya! I love the angle and lighting.

I cannot say for certain kung ano ang advantage niya pero I know lots of people (those I look up to, no less) na Fuji user. So I guess, I'm just being a lemming. Hehe.

I do! I always have my camera ready for unexpected events.. I love taking candid shots, but im not one of those paparazzis ha.. i started when I'm in high school.. my favorite subjects are: old buildings, my pamangkins, friends, beach, white sand, eyes, and a lot more..
I use my dad's hand-me-down cam Yashica.. bulky-type cam which photographers use kaso outdated na cia, at ung zoom lens nia pang short distance lang.. I also used (kc benenta ko na) canon s30, pamato type dhil sa sobrang bigat nia.. but in all fairness malinaw khit 3.2MP lng cia.. n of course my ever-dependable nokia 6270 (2MP) where i carry around jus in case my magandang kuhanan..

jus want to share few of my shots..

kuya jon,

what do you mean by "noisy" po?
try adjusting your ISO to a higher level. yea, the flash may help pero kung gusto mo maretain yung color nung subject, nagbobounceback yung light nung flash, kaya minsan mas magandang ilawan na lang kaysa sa gamitin ang flash. pag indoor at artificial ang lighting mas macocontrol yun kaysa sa liwanag ng flash. i dunno if it applies to all, pero para sa akin it works. =)

ganyan talaga pag medyo madilim yung kukunan mo tapos di ka gagamit ng flash tapos naka auto-focus, tendency kasi maga-adjust yung digicam to use a higher iso setting. higher iso = higher sensor sensitivity, ang drawback eh more noise. kung may manual settings yung digicam mo tapos ayaw mo mag-angat ng iso setting try mo gumamit ng mas matagal na shutter speed para mas matagal naka-expose yung sensor, ang problema naman eh kung gumagalaw yung kukunan mo, sigurado blurred, kailangan super stationary pag long exposure.

kuya jon, what do you mean by "noisy" po?

Usually that refers to grain. In digital photos, that "noise grain" is colored pa - which makes it more irritating if present (especially if your scene is predominantly dark, as they are very visible on solid dark areas)

Perfect example of that irritating noise would be here (http://www.nargalzius.com/gallery/picture.php?/450332263) (check out the water) where my ISO was set at a whopping 3200 hahahaha.

Sometimes you can use it to your advantage though, like if you would like a black and white grainy photo, then you can get it as noisy as you want, then the "colors" of that noise wouldn't matter since you'll be desaturating the channels anyways :)

Sorry for replying to this really old post pero nao-OC ako :D

In case di pa nasagot or nalinaw, meron term yang pagka-blur ng background; it's called "bokeh," which is a function of the depth of field. Macro-ish shots almost always entail shallow DOP by nature of how the lens focuses on the subject.

However, you can achieve that shallow depth even on normal photographs, as long as your lens can support a large aperture. The bokeh generated by shallow DOP is most noticable when you're on an aperture of f2.8 or higher (and higher of course means, a lower number hahahaha)

An example would be this (http://www.nargalzius.com/gallery/picture.php?/450704514), which was done with an aperture of f1.8. Notice that from the point of focus (the inlay) the area surrounding it na starts to go out of focus. If I had used a really small aperture like f8-16, I'd have more of the guitar in focus (probably the entire scene would be in focus).

Time flies - especially as we get older. The enormous amount of stimuli we encounter each day makes it increasingly difficult to absorbs the moment. That why it's nice to have digital photography. They are well known being able to view the photo right away( and delete it right away if it's ugly), change camera settings and modes at the push of a button and create special effects instantly ( thanks to CS3 and macbook) perhaps the only downside is that most of the time, the photos remain inside the camera or memory card, or inside the computer or laptop once they're been transferred. I love taking pictures of special occasions - birthdays, reunions with family & friends - help mark those times in our minds. Putting onlines or sending the hard copies to my relatives & friends would allow them to cherish those occasions as well.

Photography has widened my perspective. It helps me, to discovered the beauty in people, places, and things that I did not notice before.

Becoming a good photographer is neither difficult nor expensive. It's a gift that will keep your family & friends laughing and bonding year after year after year.

Watch what you post onlines:

Of course , you'd want everyone in your circle of friends to see your trip to boracay. But there are a lot of sick minds out there, so access to these photos should be limited. Posting pics of yourself in suggestive poses (even as a jokes) can also leave you vulnerable to misinterpretation-especially with the technology of today. On a similar note, never allow, yourself to be photographed in compromising situatiuons.

3 times a year my company would send us out from the office and go somewhere.... we call it "Away Day"

On our last Away Day we went to an island next to Kuwait. On our way back I was on top of the Catamaran (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Catamaran) that our company rented, there were a bunch of Jet Skiers that we passed by.

As I Click & click my camera... seeing my Canon Camera they posed and even made some stunts for me.... It was just all finished when our Captain called in the Coast Guards and held the boys... for safety as they said.

It will be my official entry to my company's Photo Contest this year.

Well practically speaking if photography is indeed your hobby then you should be aware of Photoworld Asia 2008, the biggest and longest running photography show in Southeast Asia , from January 31- February 5, 2008. The trade fair will be held at the Glorietta, Ayala Center while the series of workshops will be held at the Asian Institute of Management in Makati City . Veteran National Geographic photographer Joe McNally will discuss how he uses existing and artificial light creatively and how he deals with physical space through the use of reflectors, strobes, and tungsten to light and photograph portraits, interiors, exteriors, large and small spaces, street scenes, and people in all types of situations and locales. For details, kindly visit this: http://www.photoworldmanila.com/form_pwa08_reg2.html

@bouie and hashpipe: Nakita ko photos nyo, and I do not mind what camera you used, the important thing is that maganda ang composition ng photos nyo.

The great thing with starting with simple cameras, mala-cellcam or point & shoot - it forces you to think of how to make your shots look good even if we do not have the money to buy the expensive and advanced dSLRs.

Though syempre, pangarap ko magka-dSLR. Pero between a dSLR and a new computer for playing Starcraft 2, priority muna ang Computer! :D

Besides, happy pa naman ako sa Canon SD800IS, it's a P&S camera, pero because of Canon's quality, parang SLR ang dating ng shots, so I decided to buy it. I gave my previous camera to my younger brother.

One of the emerging hobbies among the nice people is photography. Nowadays, a personís life may be documented from birth (or even while still in the womb) with photographs. Anyone can use a camera. Unfortunately not everyone can be a photographer. While many are called, only a few are chosen. A lot of young (rich) kids come to apprentice with Escaler, Isaac but only few stay on.

Iím going to share with you some pictures that are a glimpse into my past and present daily life. These are some of my favorite shots. I think some of them came out pretty well.

gusto ko bumili ng canon s5is kaso nate-tempt ako ng nikon d40 kit, yun nga lang i don't really need a dslr, gusto ko kasi sana may movie capture mode at yung 12x zoom ng s5is, but then a dslr is a dslr, nakaka-tempt talaga, magka-presyo na lang kasi sila, both 22k na lang sa mayers sa quiapo.

i just bought a canon powershot s5is for at mayer photo last monday, prices now are a bit higher than a few months ago kasi now they have canon philippines warranty, dati mas mura pa dahil shop warranty lang sila, pero still mas mura pa rin prices sa quiapo area. i got my s5is for 22k, sa malls around 28k to 29k ang presyuhan nito, malaki pa rin natipid. mas malaki actually matitipid kapag sa internet naghanap, meron akong nakita 17.5k to almost 19k ang range, di nga lang ako komportable pa bumili ng mga nasa net. mas oks na to para sa akin, mas nakakasiguro kasi hindi shop or personal warranty lang.

ito lang talaga frustrating pag di ka naka-dslr, dead end ang quality pagdating sa low-light situations. kagigil talaga last night while taking pics of my choirmates during their concert (di ako nakasama :():

WILGEN BOOK II: The Servant (http://www.bukaspalad.com/board/showthread.php?t=3608&page=3)

in some pics i used the built-in pop-up flash, in some i did not. pag pop-up flash lang kasi gamit dumidilim sa likuran, pwede sana gamitan ng slow synchro para maliwanag hanggang sa likod kaso madalas nagiging blurry dahil long exposure, konting galaw ng tao yari na... yung ibang pics ko tuloy napilitan ako magtaas ng iso kaya noisy yung images... pinilit ko na lang gawan ng paraan sa noiseware kaso syempre di pa rin ganun kaganda... :(

hannggang pang-maliwanag na setup lang itong s5is ko, pwede sana kung me matino akong flash unit kahit man lang 430ex. hayz... :(

it may be the indian not the pana, but the indian will be better off with a sniper rifle... :D

dreaming of a nikon d300... hayz...

Coolwaters
08.06.18, 08:18 PM
May point ka dun manoiskee... pero within pa rin yan sa "it's the indian, not the pana".

Just kidding!!!

Seriously, kahit SLR magiging blurred pa rin sa gabi kasi what it will do is to give you much leeway on the exposure time... Mas mataas ang normal exposure time ng SLR (30seconds), tapos meron pang bulb mode. So if the subject is moving at low light, magiging blurred pa rin... or if you hand is shaking, blurred din... Solution is use a tripod... :)

Pero I have my reservations kasi nga old school photography pa ako... film SLR pa rin gamit ko eh... baka yung mga DSLRs meron nang mas mabisang panlaban sa blurrs pag gabi on exposure times higher than 1 second... Kaya ba yan ng hand held lang with VR or IS?

manoiskee
08.06.18, 09:26 PM
naku...

Sabi ng mga experts, ang metering system ng camera is calibrated at 18% gray reflectance, and it is easily fooled by tints such as black, white, brown, yellow and green...

According sa mga nababasa ko at personal practice, it would help if you do some bracketing:
2. In extreme tints, use Manual mode.
3. Meter using partial metering sa white background with the preferred aperture at alamin ang exposure na binibigay ng camera.
4. Compose your shot with the subject for portrait and add an additional EV like +0.5 or +1 sa condition sa step 3 for white, -1 or -0.5 for black, and -0.5 or -1/3 for green.

Try mo lang subukan... Hope this will help.... And don't forget, mas importante ang skin tone sa portraits... :)

Ah ok.... I think in this case, naka-spot metering or partial metering yung camera kasi ang exposure setting is taken in a specified area... sa digital cameras usually, yung areas na ito 'yung may brackets sa center ng viewer.

Haay... Kung minsan gusto ko na ring magshift sa DSLR due to the ease of taking pictures... and re-taking them...:D

Sana nga matuloy yung photo ops natin mga onliner, what do you think herald? niyaya nga ako ng isang school mate ko na pumunta sa fppf one of this day.

titopao kahit 4gb sd card lang ok na nakakatakot kase yung 8gb pag nasira nakakahinayang yung presyo, may nakita kase ako na 4gb sd card P700 lang, natetemp nga akong bilhin, grabe ang photography nakaka adik consider na point and shoot pa lang ang gamit what more pa kung naka Nikon D40 na ako.
