iPhone only operates on authorised carriers, in the case of the Philippines, there is NO authorised carriers yet. If you bought it or somebody gave it to you from countries where it is already operating, you cannot use it in the Philippines. Even the iTunes cannot operate if the iPhone hasn't been activated.

If it is an "unlocked" or "modified" version of the iPhone, ( sa mga Pinoy pa :D ), baka magawan ng paraan, pero the warranty of the unit is void.

Walang MMS sa iPhone, FYI.

You should have your iPhone "unlocked" because so far, "illegal" pa yan dito sa Pilipinas (sorry for the term). Putting music in your iPhone is kinda like putting music in an iPod. You need iTunes to do so. :)

Saan mo ba nabili?

Tsaka beware pala...daming naglipanang fake iPhones. Hehe. Yung mga gawa sa China na dual (or even triple) sim. Hehe. Yung iba, may stylus pa. Hehe.

that's true, at present there is no official carrier of iphone since the unit is not yet released here (next year i heard)... but there are quite number of people in the Philippines who are using iphones already. it can be unlocked in two ways. for more info just log on to these links and visit the forums:

yup, madami nga fake iphones from china kaya beware.. just a tip: iphones from china are bit bigger than the original iphones and meron stylus.. if you want to buy, make sure you deal with the reliable people.. log on to the links i posted earlier.. and be a member if you want to (my username: thomasian)... they are all reliable. :)

iPhone is not MMS capable. GPRS is just a matter of typing the carrier access in Settings/General/Network/Edge/ APN...APN for Smart, just type internet in the APN window. Thats it.
As to syncing music in your PC it would help if you update your iTunes to a version that will recognize your iPhone.

As to the iPhone release in the Phil? Fat chance. Asian version release will probably be Singapore.

I know. Kainis. I don't want the hassle of getting a hacked one sana, but I'm giving it until February siguro (rumored date of its release in Asia or even dito, pero hanggang ngayon rumor, haaaay). Kung wala pa rin, then hello iPhone SimFree! Hehehe!

Kuya Butch, any complaints sa iPhone niyo so far? It would be nice to hear feedbacks from long-time (like, more than 2 months, hehe) Manila-based users na like you and Carlo! :)

FYI, the "3G" (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/3G) is the 3rd Generation of mobile phone standards. Sabi nga sa wiki
3G networks are wide area cellular telephone networks which evolved to incorporate high-speed internet access and video telephony (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Video_telephony)

Basically if you have a 3G phone, para ka ng may WIRELESS MODEM na pwede mo gamitin for your laptop or PC, or do the surfing direct sa 3G Phone.

not yet. 3G iPhone is not yet released in US. everyone is eagerly waiting for the WWDC Keynote on June 9. dun ilalabas ni Steve Jobs ng Apple ang new product nila and that's the 3G iPhone. i have read in the other forum site (philmug.ph) that Globe will be the carrier network of iPhones pero late this year pa un. Probably in december 2008 pa. Medyo late din dito sa Pinas probably because of the high costs of iPhone. just an added info, 3G iPhone costs $499 daw but i'm sure pag Globe na ang carrier nyan, it will cost more than 30 thou pesos na sa Pinas. so the best alternative way to get a cheaper iPhone is to have someone, relative or friends from the US to buy for you. Then ipa-jailbreak or unlocked so you could use any sim. i hope to buy the 3G iphone this july or august if may budget. :)

Sa mga may kamag-anak sa US:

There is rumor that AT&T will subsidize $200 iPhone price,
bringing down the price downto $199 (with 2 years subscription).
Roughly PHP 10,000.00.

Mura diba? Tapos ipa-open-line na lang sa Greenhills

no need to open the phone to unlock it.

Globe and Apple’s iPhone forge an alliance (http://philmug.com/?p=88)

May 13, 2008

http://philmug.com/wp-content/uploads/2008/05/picture-2-150x150.jpgGlobe Telecom (http://www1.globe.com.ph/index.aspx) is set to be one of the first telecom operators in Asia to officially carry Apple’s popular iPhone handset.
Globe’s said the mobile communications firm had signed an agreement with Apple along with Singapore’s Singtel, India’s Bharti Airtel and Australia’s Optus. A source from Globe said the iPhone may be launched locally starting September this year.
The iPhone was launched in the United States January 2007 exclusively to AT&T. Apple said it would launch the iPhone in Asia this year but up until today it has not mentioned specific details.
A Globe source said bringing the iPhone to Asia may require a different service provider infrastructure being used by that in the US.
SingTel owns Optus and holds a 30.5-percent stake in Bharti and 44.5 percent in Globe. As of Dec. 31, 2007, SingTel had about 2.3 million mobile subscribers in Singapore and around 7 million in Australia. Bharti currently has about 64 million subscribers, while Globe reported a 21.3 million mobile subscriber base for the quarter ended March 31.
The announcement comes as Apple looks to expand sales of the iPhone–a combination phone, music player and Web browser–that was launched in the US in 2007.
On Wednesday, America Movil, the top mobile phone operator in Latin America, said it had inked a deal to bring the iPhone to more than a dozen countries in that region starting later this year.
Apple has so far signed exclusive deals for the iPhone with AT&T Inc. in the United States, O2 in Britain, T-Mobile in Germany and France Telecom’s Orange wireless arm in France.
The American company has also in the past few weeks signed deals to sell the device in Canada as well as in Italy, while Vodafone Group PLC, the world’s biggest mobile company by sales, will sell it in a total of 10 countries, including Australia, India, Italy and Turkey.
Apple has so far sold 5.4 million iPhones worldwide, based on data as of the end of Apple’s fiscal second quarter, which ended in March. Apple has a goal of selling 10 million iPhones by the end of this year.

The Cheaper iPhone and Other Misconceptions
[PC Magazine USA]

http://blogs.pcmag.com/miller/2008/06/the_cheaper_iphone_and_other_m.php

[Misconception #1] The new iPhone is a lot cheaper: The price isn't as low as it seems. At $199 for the 8GB version, plus $30 a month for the data plan (above your voice minutes, which start at a minimum of $40 a month), over two years, this comes up to $919. The older iPhone cost more, but the data plan was only $20 a month, so the two year cost (above voice) was $879. So over a two year period, you're actually paying $40 more. Now, most of us look more at the initial cost, not the monthly fee, which is why the new iPhone should sell faster, but you really should consider all of it.

Buying an iPhone 3G online and non-activation penalties
[Reuters]

http://www.reuters.com/article/marketsNews/idUSN0926011020080610?pageNumber=2&virtualBrandChannel=0

"There would be penalties for users who do not activate the iPhone in the first 30 days", AT&T said, in a move aimed at reducing the number of customers who buy an iPhone and tweak it so that they can use it on another network.

of iPhone 3G + AT&T 2 Year Plan
[ComputerWorld]

http://www.computerworld.com/action/article.do?command=viewArticleBasic&articleId=9096978&pageNumber=2

AT&T has said the data component of iPhone 3G plans will run $30 for unlimited access, which is $10 more than the $20 all-you-can-eat data plan sold with the first-generation iPhone. A voice plan is also required; those start at $39.95, putting the minimum consumer monthly plan at $69.95.

Buying the iPhone 3G without a contract
[Yahoo Tech News]

http://tech.yahoo.com/blogs/patterson/23070/iphone-3g-questionsanswers/

Is it at all possible to just buy the iPhone 3G without a contract, just an outright phone purchase?
The short answer: No, at least initially. The long answer: With the original iPhone, you were able to buy it at the Apple Store and then activate it—or not—online via iTunes. However, AT&T now says that you must activate your new iPhone in the store (http://tech.yahoo.com/blogs/patterson/23060) (either the Apple Store or an AT&T location), and that means signing a new two-year contract—no exceptions.

chances are yung iPhone nakita mo, tunay. Ang pinaka "look-alike"neto hindi touch screen. Stylus yung ginagamit.

Ang PowerMac, di nagbebenta dito kasi, as an Apple reseller, di sila pwede magbenta ng product na hindi pa officially launched dito.

Ang magbebenta dito ng iPhone (3G model) will be Globe in the near future.

Alex, I beg to disagree. And in this regard, I'll have to stand by Chopinsky's last statement---the PhilMUG website per se isn't a spam group. (No need to apologize, Ms. Liezl)

The Philippine Mac Users Group is a Mac user's group (MUG) recognized by Apple Inc. As such, Apple Inc. itself may provide information to PhilMUG (and to other MUGs as well) that, surely, will be reliable. What could be less reliable than information that Apple Inc. itself provides to all MUGs the whole world over?

It just so happened that the PhilMUG website has a forum, where some of the information posted there may not be reliable as it's user-posted. However, the page that Chopinsky provided isn't even a message board post, but a post on the MUG's news site. More like a quote of a press release pa nga, and at any rate I'm sure that the PhilMUG admins will be able to verify this information from Apple's reps in the Philippines anyway.

Para mo na ring sinabi na hindi reliable ang ibang pages ng BP website even though an information came from, say, the News section or the Members list. And gayundin, para mo na ring sinabing walang halaga ang resource pages (other than the forums) ng websites iba-ibang user groups ng mga tech companies (such as the MSDN program, the Adobe Developers program, the Wikimedia Foundation, etc. etc.)

Just my $0.02 (or appr. PHP0.90 at USD1.00=PHP45.00) 8)

Hi All!

I defense of, surprise, both Kuya Alex and even Chopinsky:

Ako po yung sinabihan sa post ni Alex na ito (http://www.bukaspalad.com/board/showpost.php?p=50221&postcount=32). It was my fault.

It just happened that he deleted my post, leaving everyone to see Chopinsky's post. This lead Chopinsky to think that Alex's reminder (http://www.bukaspalad.com/board/showpost.php?p=50221&postcount=32) was referring to her post.

So what were the contents of my deleted post? Here they are:

- Several links about the iPhone 3G, mostly speculations.
- Unofficial Globe Post-Paid Subcription projections.
- And info on how to Unlock the iPhone 3G.

That's why I apologized about that last post deleted (http://www.bukaspalad.com/board/showpost.php?p=50323), and offered a good alternative that presents better news (http://www.bukaspalad.com/board/showpost.php?p=50332).

I felt obliged to write this.
Please do not take it against the moderator.

It was my fault, and I stand corrected.

To make things even clearer:
Chopinsky's post is 100% OK, that's why it wasn't deleted.
PhilMUG is a credible website, as well as her quoted news source.

@titopao and michaela, rest assured that I am confirming links (except for suspect sites of course) before I make a statement. It has nothing to do with chopinsky's post nor any articles she quoted from PhilMUG. Just to throw in my 2 cents.

Personally, I don't see anything wrong with putting links to unverified sources for as long as there's a disclaimer that they are unverified.

I mean especially with Apple products, rumors and hearsay are a part of the Apple user culture. For non-apple users, it has something to do with how secretive Apple is with their products - that users get kicks out of just trying to guess what they're up to.

But siguro as far as "appropriateness" goes, having seen the "moderated posts" - I think it would've been better if thenonhacker posted the information and links in the form of a personal opinion... or an editorial if you will, not just cut and pasting stuff (which is essentially reposting - which kinda loses the "personal touch" which we always perfer to have) to keep the discussion "sincere" (for lack of a better term) Hahahaha, labo no? Pero gets ninyo ba sinasabi ko?

I do agree with the whole hacking part though - as much as I personally don't mind it, like I always say, we are some sort of "official presence" of some category (Liturgy?) so the last thing we want is to make it seem we condone anything that's ultimately illegal.

Actually, if you ask me, issue ko din yung little detail na yon sa PhilMUG - kse sila mismo official Apple presence sa Pinas, pero for some reason the discussion of jailbreaking et al is condoned by the moderators. But hey, Apple doesn't seem to mind it - so I guess it's fine... I'm just saying I think it's inconsistent from the "image" that they're trying to acheive. But that's just me.

Globe to sell iPhone 3G locally starting at P41,899

MANILA, Philippines -- Globe Telecom will offer Apple’s iPhone 3G prepaid kits in the country for more than P40,000 and with free “text” loads, the company said during its investors’ briefing Wednesday.

The prepaid kit of the 8-Gb version of the much-anticipated phone is priced at P41,899, while the 16-Gb version costs P48,899. Both units, to be sold locally beginning August 22, come with free short messaging service load of P200 for five months.

The iPhone 3G will also be sold under postpaid monthly plans from P1,599 to P4,999 inclusive of free wi-fi connectivity hours.

The Apple iPhone 3G, which operates on the third-generation (3G) mobile network, will also come with a built-in global positioning system (GPS) for location-based mobile services.

The iPhone 2.0 software includes support for Microsoft Exchange ActiveSync, apart from hundreds of third-party applications built with the recently released iPhone software development kit.

Globe Telecom has more than 21 million mobile subscribers to date.

Many will dislike to buy the legitimate iphone because of the price. Well as of most of good products from cellphone manufacturers, this price is ideal for first release of the product(remember guys, legitimate ito! :)).I got my iPhone last year from a friend of my brother business partner . Since the friend of my brother didn't like the interface. He said that it won't help him send text messages efficiently, so he sell it to me.Like I said it here before in mobile phones thread that there are a lot of really good features in it. It's so compact that you can even put a chicken soup for the soul in it, a whole bunch of john grisham novels, a dictionary, a thesaurus, a concise Brittanica encyclopedia, even a Nintendo-in-1 game set. The compromise of all of this is convenience. For few, owners scared to damage their iPhone. Because, its value is still high to date.So question is, WHY WOULD ANYBODY want THIS IPHONE?! Because of its portability and interface. One thing I don't like in this iPhone the sms feature is not user friendly.::)

nice insights! you could qualify to a review mag.. hehe.

I agree with you.. its just that, if you can have a friend going to US, you might want to ask him/her to buy an iPhone for you instead of buying it here. It will save you about 60-75% of money. I just don't know if there would be any hard circumstances if you do that..

Bottom line.. its a great phone.. :)

The "Local Mobile Internet" i think refers to its GPRS/EDGE & HSDPA features and "WiZ Wi-Fi" is a hotspot provider. You can find information about WiZ Wi-Fi here (http://wiz.globequest.com.ph/wizviaglobe.php).

Never mind the antenna problem... There is another problem where privacy of ANY iPhone users are compromised: Did You Know That The IPhone Retains Cached Keyboard Data For Up To 12 Months?

This means, if your iPhone is stolen and/or infiltrated by malware, whatever you typed in the iPhone in the past will be exposed to others.

Still can't believe? Well read this:

http://www.security-faqs.com/did-you-know-that-the-iphone-retains-cached-keyboard-data-for-up-to-12-months.html

So keep your iPhones safe! More than the cost of losing the device, is compromised privacy -- everything you typed in it is stored in the phone for 12 months. Anyone can pry what you've typed on your iPhone.

It keeps them in their place. Apple is making Microsoft look good, I'm telling you all, lalo na sa mga condescending attitude ni Steve Jobs.

korek ka dyan poknat20. Nakita ko ang difference the iphone from 3G, 3GS & now iPhone 4. paganda ng paganda ang features. mahirap na bumalik sa dati once ma-experience mo na ang latest. same with the Mac. Pag nasanay ka na sa mac, parang ayaw mo na gumamit ng PC or any other laptops.

the best pa ang camera ng iphone 4. ang 5 meg niya pwede mo ilaban sa 12 meg or even 15 meg ng nokia or any other phone..kahit na yung mga digital cams (except DSLRs syempre).
