ano po ba ang sinusundan nang flute? Alto/Tenor/Bass/Soprano?

Alexander

I am thinking of buying myself a flute, kasi meron ditong rent to own, Au$700 ang price pero you can pay it in 24 equal payments interest free (rent-to-own).

@Punzi,

https://www.billyhydemusic.com.au/shop/index.cfm?action=view&id=2613

Ano ba ang ideal na specifications para sa beginner, pero thinking of investing on a good one already. Ok na ba yung series 200 ng Yamaha? Okey ba yung price na nabanggit ko or masyadong mahal?

Please advice.

Mga kapatid,

piece of advice lang po kasi i was a flutist by profession before (sadly no longer) and i'd like to give some tips

1. best brand is armstrong. yamaha also has an affiliate brand named nikkan, they're good but problem is they lack the color of high notes you can produce using armstrong, mas makulay kung baga ang tunog ng armstrong, very rounded and buong-buo yung lowest octave. and besides ung mouthpiece ng ibang brands ay mas madaling mag-fade yung coating, leaving you with a course surface to place your lower lip on, not very pleasant in the long haul. conn is also ok pero i prefer that brand for brass instruments especially sa trumpets, french horns and trombones

2. if you really are serious in learning flute sasayangin mo lang ang pera mo sa king flute. if you've noticed or if not i suggest you try it na try tuning a king flute to a standard keyboard, mabibigo ka. if you have sharp hearing, mapapansin mo na may slight difference yung tune ng bawat nota. and besides, playing flat and sharp notes by covering only half of the finger hole? common! very crude. more market hype than anything else. kung ie-entertain mo lang ang mga lolo't lola mo pag weekends pwede na, pero gamitin sa performances? i don't think so. may trainer flute din naman na binebenta ang yamaha, if you just want to explore, maganda din yun. halos magkalapit na din naman ang presyo ng king flute at yun eh

3.ang mga instrumento parang alahas, pag maalaga ka at mukha pa ding sterling condition after some years tumataas ang value. pwedeng pwede sa mga mahilig sa vintage. look at the stradivarius, need i say more?

sorry sa bias ha, just basing from experience po. 1st flutist nga po pala ako sa ust rotc band from 1994-1996, baka may ka-batch ako dyan sa corps, hello, go tigers! hehe

kuya alex i haven't heard of LARGO, maybe because it's been so long since i played the flute. yung 200 series ng yamaha nga po pala is very ideal for primary steps, halos lahat naman po ng dynamics ng pro series nandito na eh, except syempre yung richer tones. pero this is not at all bad. i think makukuha mo po yan dito sa manila ng around 25,000, my estimate lang po

After more than 15 years sa choir, ngayon pa lang ako mag-uupgrade to YFL-471 (all-sterling silver, offset G, open hole, C-Foot).

Pero buying a flute and playing calls for commitment talaga kasi mahal ang matinong instrumento. Yung bibilhin kong bago kasing mahal ng MacBook Air, intermediate flute pa lang yon. Yung talagang magaganda (at pro-model) nagsisimula sa 10,000 USD. Patatagalin ko muna yung makukuha kong flute next month bago ko pag-isipan mag-upgrade.

http://www.thomann.de/gb/onlineexpert_128.html

Makikita nyo dyan nga diperensya ng offset at inline G, C at B foot, split-E, etc.

http://www.jennifercluff.com/buying.htm

Punzi,

Here are the SPECS...
http://www.jouellinestrings.com.au/?stg=112&view=112

Silver-Titanium Head Joint
Body - Silver Plated Cupro-Nickle
High Quality Italian Double Bladder Pads
Stainless steel springs
17 keys, open hole
Split E mechanism
Offset G

Pero at the end of 24 months of HIRE magiging sa iyo na.

I'll try your suggestion, ernani and Punzi to look for a second hand model na magandang klase, or look for Armstrong Brand na rin.

The reason I wanted a flute kasi of the sound it create, I would imagine, if I am to learn the craft, mas mag-eenjoy akong tugtugin ito sa Church.

And I saw some music sheets where this was sometimes indicated at maganda ang tunog, parang ibong humuhuni ng mabilis :D

Pagsisisihan mo yan.

Ako, took me years to play the second octave comfortably, yung 3rd octave ko nga basag pa (hanggang G3 palang ang sureball). So wag mo muna alalahanin yung split-E.

Yung B-foot (17 holes instead of 16), pang-advanced rin yon. It will get in the way of playing well for now.

For a beginner, Armstrong 104 maganda talaga.

regards to all :)

Alexander
08.04.25, 04:51 PM
Thank you very much Punzi.

Punzi
08.04.25, 10:18 PM
Alex,

That's the price they give me pag nagtatanong ako sa mga SM North stores nila.

Yung patunugan, wag mong alalalhanin yon.

Atty. Punzi, I think there's a little bit of Alex's technique in me. I mean, sometimes, I also read a book about cycling before trying to ride the bicycle. Sometimes, that approach works for me, though admittedly it would depend on what is it that I was trying to learn. Of course, nothing still beats riding (and falling from) the bike :P

My point is...I also want to learn how to play the flute, so much that I have some fingering charts among my computer files, among others :)

But for the service sa amin bukas, tatakpan ko muna. Mahirap na.

Grabe ang ganda ng tunog. Sobrang mellow tapos very expressive. Ang galing. Worth the arm and the leg I spent for it.

My dear Allen, here are some tips for you to avoid dizzyness while playing the flute:

Take a deep breath. Does your stomach rise when you inhale? If not, practice breathing in while expanding your stomach muscles. You will breathe more efficiently this way because every time your stomach rises, your diaphram moves downward, giving your lungs more room to fill with air. If you keep on practicing to breathe this way, it will become so natural that you will eventually do it without thinking about it.

2. Another great exercise is to sit in front of a wall, hold up a piece of paper to the wall, form your embouchure, then breathe out through your embouchure, using your breath to hold the paper up against the wall. Try to see how long you can keep the paper on the wall. Stand further back from the wall and try the same exercise again. See how far away you can be from the wall before it becomes impossible to hold the paper up with your breath.

3. Most new flute players take a breath after every four measures. More experienced players take a breath after more measures. Sometimes it depends on where it is more convenient in the musical score. For example, it may be better to take a breath in between a measure if there is a rest sign. As you practice each piece of music, focus on where you should take your breath. Experiment with different places to take your breath to find out which way works best with the music.

4. Always breathe in through your nose and out from your mouth. This way you will be able to play more efficiently becaue people who breathe in through their mouth have a tendency to lose their embouchure as they play and the music might sound choppy. (http://www.essortment.com/all/howtoplaythe_rfxa.htm)

If you still feel dizzy after doing all these exercises, you might consider learning another instrument. A violin maybe? Or is it time for a medical check up?

cheers

Use the headjoint/mouthpiece (by itself) instead.

just to put emphasis on this, i-try mo umihip ng kahit anong nota (kumintang ha baka i-quote mo nanaman ako ahehehe) tapos in your most comfortable lip placement igalaw mo yung mouthpiece ng subtle movements lang towards you and rolling away from you. maririnig mo na may evident change sa pitch, kahit maliit na movement lang ng mouthpiece. ganun kahalaga ang bokadura sa flute.

hindi kita masagot tungkol sa breathing per note eh kasi it really depends on the demand of the piece. pero kung sa exercises lang i'd bet na makakatulong sa yo paumpisa ang mga 2 bars on 85 bpm and then try to extend to 4-6 bars pag hindi ka na masyado nahihilo.

i remember may natugtog akong pyesa dati (Festive Overture yata yun o Pathetique) na may 16 bars na tr. ahehe, good times:)

Ako man p ay nahihirapan sa pag-aaral ng pagtugtog sa flute, pero sa tuwing naririnig ko yung awit ng pagsuyo and pananatili, sobrang ginaganahan ako lalo.

Hello zypho,

I'll address your question re books since I'm not very familiar with flutes themselves.

Nasa Quiapo ka na rin lang...visit the two famous music book stores at Platerias St. They're called Rhapsody Music Store and Lobregat Music Store. (Nabili ng Lyric Pianos yung isa sa dalawa, just that I forgot which one.) Go for the one that Lyric Pianos now own, they have good imported how-to books that you may want to use :)

malaki na yung budget mo zypho for a beginner flute, ako dati 4k lang ang nagastos ko sa isang brass flute, nakalimutan ko lang yung brand niya pero ok siya for beginner at pang lesson lesson.

i only started playing my flute one and a half years ago. my flute is not the kind that costs tens of thousands of pesos which i have seen and read here and other sites. i don't read musical sheets either, only play purely by hearing, very crude and amateurish nevertheless i enjoy very much playing the instrument and hearing its melodious sound.

after playing, i used to just lay my flute on the table and it happened that i think cockroaches nibbled on the flute pads which causes sound leaks. being clueless on how to repair it, i ventured to seal the damaged pads with mighty bond epoxy. alas,it got worse and no more sound is produced. anybody here who can tell me where i can find someone who can replace the pads? and also would look if there is any spring problem in one of the keys because i tried on my own again to fix one key when it noisily struck on the flute body one time after i accidentally dropped my flute only to find out later the problem lies with the detached plastic support underneath the said key. so to recap, please advise me where i can find a repair shop in manila. i tried raon in quiapo where i bought my flute but to no avail.

I suggest taking it back to the store where you bought it from, especially if it is still under warranty.

Hi guys! I just purchased my first flute and I really want to learn how to play well especially yung mga flute parts sa mga songs ng BP and Hangad.. I just need some tips kung ano yung mga resources na available para ma-improve yung playing ko.

First things first, medyo alam ko na yung basics like yung positions ng notes and medyo napapatunog ko na eto, except the lower C na nahihirapan ako talaga patunugin. Sustain is also a problem, maybe there's a problem with my breathing.

Could you recommend videos, books and exercises that I should see or get?

Thanks!
