Wedding Liturgy

Hello all....

Tanong lang po.

One of our choir alumni will be having his wedding on May 11, 2008, which is Pentecost Sunday. He is now preparing the Mass Guide for the wedding.

Question lang po if the Church allows us to replace the readings for Pentecost Sunday (1st reading, responsorial psalm, 2nd reading) to readings appropriate for weddings.

Of course, ipa-pa review pa sa Parish priest yung draft of the Mass Guide. Pero, sa ngayon nagsisimula pang mag encode sa Mass Guide, we'd like to ask for pointers regarding this matter sa mga nakakaalam dito sa board.

There is a separate liturgy for weddings, which contains readings that are not necessarily the same as the Sunday Gospel reading. So forget about checking the Ordo, because the Ordo does not apply to weddings. (In other words, don't worry about changing the Sunday readings, because in all likelihood it doesn't apply to weddings, as it has its own readings.)

I strongly suggest that you ask the assistance of your priest or anyone who has access to the liturgical books for weddings so that you can secure the copy of the readings appropriate for the wedding.Or go to the nearest chancery or religious bookshop (e.g. St. Paul's ) and look for a copy of the wedding liturgy.(In our diocese (Diocese of Malolos), the diocesan chancery is selling a separate booklet containing the liturgy for the sacrament of matrimony.)

And nandito na rin lang tayo...take note that some special masses also have a separate set of readings (e.g. funeral masses). The book that you might need to consult is called the sacramentary, although the lectionary may also contain a separate section just for weddings. Since most parishes have lectionaries (if not the sacramentary), also try asking help from a lector/commentator/priest, who can help look up what you need :D
