Just what I've told to the moderators of the board, heto po ang thread para sa talakayan na ukol sa song compilation ng mga BP Onliners na pinamagataang Awit sa Panginoon.

I've requested the moderators na i-closed muna pansamantala yung thread ng Compilations and Arrangements of Songs dahil ila-launch na yung libro this September.

Kung may mga katanungan kayo na may kinalaman sa librong aming ipinalathala, pwede ninyo ritong i-post at aming sasagutin sa aming makakaya.

Thanks for taking care of the discussion while I'm away, coroangelicus15 :) I'll be brief here Just to follow up:

1. We're currently working on a launch date to be held sometime this month (we're working on this). This is the one last item on our to-do list, really :) Our goal is hindi paabutin ng October ang launch date. Once we finalize a date and place, we'll let you know :D

2. For those who live outside Manila, we're looking into the possibility of accepting bank transfer for payments (the songbooks will be couriered, probably DHL or JRS Express or anything similar na affordable). We'll post more details soon once we've finalized everything.

3. We're looking into the possibility of beginning Vol. 2 sometime after "Awit sa Panginoon" has been launched. We know that there are many onliners who would also want to take part of the project. Don't worry, we'll let you know soon if and when this happens. Just to give a hint for prospective contributors: if and when matutuloy, the next volume will be based on a liturgical season/theme (like, say, Advent/Christmas, Lent, Easter, Marian-themed)...I can't say for now because we haven't given it a serious thought yet given the things we're working on, so i-defer po muna natin ang kahit na anong usapin about Vol. 2. We want to take it a one step at a time, so for now we're working on having "Awit..." launched and sold first.

(Just to reiterate: date and place na lang po ang kulang namin. Since the songbook is a community initiative, I might as well say this: If you would also like to volunteer hosting a launch event in your parish/church other than the one we intend to have, that would also be great...do please PM me and let's discuss :D )

@Jon2406: maybe sa next meetup nating dalawa (if any) pwede nating isama si coroangelicus15, our schedules permitting 8)

may definite date na ba para sa launching?

Hi LMacaranas! :) To answer your questions:

* Yes, this is the same book as the compilation coroangelicus15 mentioned :)

* The final contributors to the songbook, besides myself, are:
1. Prof. Simba
2. lester_delgado
3. sjclc
4. coroangelicus15
5. Jon2406

The songs are made up of songs for the mass, from the Entrance Song to the Recessional song. Some mass parts have more than one songs, so you can have your pick and choose the one you feel like singing ;)

There were others who were interested to join the project, but because of some constraints we limited the entries. In a subsequent volume (which I'm personally keen on starting, some time after "Awit sa Panginoon" has been launched), we will give priority space to the other onliners who earlier wanted to share their works (you know who you guys are :D ). But if you would also want to share your own work, we'd also be happy to take a look at it :) Pero bago natin isipin yung Vol. 2, let's focus on "Awit sa Panginoon" first ;)

Hope these answer your questions :D

@ titopao:

Maraming salamat po for coming up with this songbook.:D

I'll make a clarification regarding this one.

This is different from the one I've mentioned in my own thread entitled Publishing Original Compositions. What I am refering to in that thread is my Misa Henesis (The Genesis Mass). I am seeking help from the people who are well acquainted sa Publishing Industry so that mai-publish ko yung Genesis Mass.

But after a month or so, titopao opened up this project sa akin nung nag-meet kami sa rehearsal ng BPOCC.

So this one is very fresh compositions of mine. I do hope that you will enjoy and appreciate my compositions included there.

I do hope na na-clarify ko sa inyo ito.

Thanks a lot and Godbless.

Yours In Christ,
coroangelicus15

Good point ernani... maybe looking at having this endorsed like lester's Misa Delgado is a good idea, but I think if you haven't considered this, and thinking of doing so, this may delay the launching date.

Actually...Lester did suggest na magpunta kami kay Fr. Nilo, which is one of the things na talagang binabalak namin :) Hovever, nagkaron ako ng maraming conflicts sa sked (read: OT :( ) and kung kailan naman ako nalibre, saka naman ako na-inform na sarado ang EDSA Shrine office (it was a Sunday). So baka mag-take ako ng half-day leave one of these days para mapuntahan ang office ng EDSA Shrine pagkabukas nito :)

So titopao, ala pa siya nung sinasabing "Nihil Obstat Imprimatur" ba yun, na parang clearance from the Archdiocese Commision on Liturgy????

Sa pagkakaalam ko, "nihil obstat" and "imprimatur" applies to books about Catholic morals, prayers, theology and similar topics, and might not be practically applied to written music (can anyone tell how is it possible a sequence of notes be considered "free of doctrinal error"? ??? )

The way I see it, any clearance with regard to Church doctrines and morals should apply to the texts itself, but not to the music. I think the most that Church officials can do with regard to music is to indicate if it is within acceptable bounds (say, hindi ba sya tunog rock or hip-hop?)---but as every anguished choirmaster having a hard time coming up with an acceptable list of mass songs know, that in itself, is often governed by matters of taste, and I've never been comfortable with regulating matters of art and music.

Recommendation or approval, yes...but I think nihil obstat and imprimatur are a little bit overboard. I only view getting "nihil obstat" and "imprimatur" as a formality (note that many JMM songbooks don't even have them). (Having said that, in spite of my knowledge about all these, I've never been a big fan of bureaucracy as a matter of principle, whether under Canon Law or Civil Law :P )

Yung Nihil Obstat Imprimatur, obviously, hindi talaga siya for "clearing" the notes itself of any doctrinal errors.
Thanks.

titopao
08.09.02, 04:22 PM
Yes, exactly, yung lyrics :D Having said that, if ever na kailangang ipa-check yung lyrics, I think only six or seven (out of the 20+) songs will need to have the lyrics checked; the words for the others are standard mass texts naman kasi :)

The cover was designed by someone who's not an BP Onliner :) (nakalimutan ko lang yung name, though :P ) Actually, employee yata ni Jon2406 ang gumawa nun. That person, as well as the other non-onliners who have helped us as the project, are acknowledged in the book :)

Hello everyone :D

As Jon2406 has mentioned, copies of Awit sa Panginoon are fresh from the press :D However, currently, we're still awaiting feedback from Fr. Nilo regarding our plans of having the launch at the EDSA Shrine---we were going for this not primarily because of Fr. Nilo (although that's a nice thing), but because this is at the very center of EDSA, very accessible to everyone in Metro Manila via MRT and bus ;) hehehe

Having said this, we'll be accepting orders online soon (via PM or email). We're finalizing some other details (e.g. payment and shipment), so I'll be posting another announcement on how to make your orders :) (@ coroangelicus: we'll also PM you some extra details later pag nafinalize na namin :) )

Some of you may also want to hear the songs...since meron na pong group na kakanta pero wala pang place/time, I'd like to reiterate my call for those who are interested in hosting a launch in their own parish :) Ideally, the group we have will sing in the mass, with some of the songbook's songs in the lineup. Then probably after the place, the actual selling of the books will be on a nearby booth, siguro in some hall or function room. So basically ang poproblemahin lang is to secure a slot for a mass, and probably some necessary permissions to use whatever rooms/tables for the booth. But if you also want to make it an EB event for the onliners, that would be an even greater idea :D Do PM me if you're interested :)

One more thing: I'll be posting an excerpt of one of the songs tonight. It won't just be an audio file, it'll be a link to a video excerpt. And it's a live performanec, btw 8) Stay tuned :D

For the record: one of the songs was actually an old composition of mine, way, way back. In the absence of any recording (yet...though coming up with an album is a good idea ;) ), I've thought of sharing excerpts from that song when we first performed it in a concert :D

Kung sa madalian lang, I'm really, really tempted to do a one-man recording of excerpts of most (if not all) songs. Ang problema ko lang is wala akong mic. Hmm...probably I can drop by d0d0fer's beloved Audiophile one of these days ;)

08.09.24, 10:28 AM
Hello everyone :D Sorry for the delays...as you see, both Jon2406 and I were busy in both our workplaces: I'm doing lots of overtime (as in ilang linggo na akong hinahatinggabi ng uwi); and Jon's company, as I understand it, has received a lot of orders from their customers for the Christmas season.

I'll be making three consecutive posts regarding any updates. I'll be discussing about:

1. updates on possible launch dates/places;
2. how to order "Awit" online (w/ shipping); and
3. a proposal for residents of GMMA (greater Metro Manila---including nearby provinces)---for those who don't want to pay extra for shipping.

First, regarding the launch...we're still trying to follow up with the EDSA Shrine (especially any word from Fr. Nilo), but given it's a busy place as well, I don't think that it might be forthcoming soon. Personally, I'd understand why: Fr Nilo gives university lectures and only drops by the EDSA Shrine for masses and (I guess) important updates, and is likely very, very busy too given his office.

However, some onliners have intended, in one way or another, to help us out here. In Olongapo City, sjclc (our youngest contributor) is planning sana to do a mini-launch/mini-concert in his own parish in Olongapo, and if that pushes through, I'm planning sana to come over there, God willing :) In Bulacan, allen_lucas is keen on doing one in his own parish, too, but I was unable to follow up though given my overly-erratic work sked. (I hear you, allen :) I'll follow up with you pag nakakuha pa ako ng additional singers ;)) Natutuwa kami kasi

So, like what I've said in my previous posts, if you also want to help us out in coming up with launch events like these, please let us know, tulungan tayo dito. If you want your choir to premiere it in your place and time permitting, I'll even offer to coach your group, gratis :D After all, the songbook started out as a collaboration with onliners, so we might as well collaborate on launching the songbook as well. In that way, the spirit of collaboration would carry on beyond the making of the book's pages 8)

Next update later today will be about purchasing "Awit sa Panginoon". Stay tuned :D

Okay, second update :D

We're now accepting orders] for "Awit sa Panginoon", selling at P300 each. The book is printed on coated paper and the cover is in board paper and features compositions from prof. Simba, lester_delgado, a very very young sjclc, coroangelicus15, Jon2406 and yours truly. Its preface was written by a member of BP. (I'm tempted to reveal the name, but I'll keep the surprise for now until someone gets hold of a copy of the book :P hehehe)

For shipping anywhere in the Philippines, we asked around and LBC said that they'll ship to anywhere for P150. Kung may alam kayong ibang delivery services na mas mura at mas malawak ang coverage, do please let us know para marami ring makinabang :D

Here's what you do:

1. Make a deposit to the following BPI account:
Account Name: Precioso San Juan, Jr.
Account Number: 0226178046
2. Send a private message (PM) to me (titopao) and to Jon2406, together with information about your deposit (what date and what time), number of copies ordered and, of course, with your complete name and delivery address. Those who PM'ed coroangelicus15, please also include him when you send in your PM, to help him keep updated; we'll include him when we reply to you.
Oh, yeah, it goes without saying: make sure your account can accept PMs. Please do not send profile visitor messages as this would expose your name and address to other people...you don't want a troupe of Boyoyong Clowns showing up on your doorstep, do you? LOL
3. We'll acknowledge receipt of your PM and also update you if your order has been sent for shipping ^__^

Regarding orders from outside the Philippines...pinag-aaralan pa namin ni Jon2406 kung papaano ipapa-deliver abroad ang copies ng book (other than registered mail). I was told that there are some persons not just from Australia but also in the US who are inquiring as well, so I think orders from abroad will not be a one-time incident (yeah, that means you, Alex LOL). We'll keep you updated once we figured this out (but please feel free to suggest as well ;) )

Next update: what if you want meet-up instead of courier? :)

Pwede rin...though, wala akong contacts sa Don Bosco Parish. I'll see what we can do with this one :)

Kung meron din kayong ibang alam na mga bookstores na pwede naming lapitan to help distribute the books, please do let us know, we'll appreciate it :)

Anyways...

In case you're in Metro Manila (or can easily get there---tulad kong taga-Bulacan, pero everyday na pumupunta sa Manila for work :)) and you want to forego courier shipping, I can consider doing meet-ups :)

Kaya lang, here's the catch: there might be many onliners who would want to do it this way, and mag-isa lang ako, I can't be in two or three (or even, say, a hundred) places at the same time :P At saka, as I've mentioned earlier, almost everyday akong nagoOT sa work, and I don't think I might have the luxury of time to do meet-ups. I will still try meetups pa rin siguro on a case-to-case basis, but it's something that will have to be scheduled ahead of time....

So here's a proposal...come October, gusto nyo ng EB on a Saturday or a Sunday? :P If I get at least ten (10) takers, then I'll post more details of my proposal 8) (I thought of "10" para hindi sayang yung pago-organize ng EB. At saka, mage-EB na rin lang tayo, let's make the most of it na rin ;) )

Hello everyone,

Thanks for the comments and for the kind interest in participating in the planned volume 2. Matutuloy po yon once we've met our targets for the current volume, so in case you haven't gotten a copy, feel free to PM me, Jon2406 or coroangelicus15 so we can help you out ;)

@Prof Simba: got your PM, sent you a reply. I'm keen on going with your suggestion/plan regarding the launch, let's work it out po (more details on the PM :) )

Since mababasa naman ang thread na ito ng kahit sino maski na hindi onliner...many, many thanks din sa mga early buyers ng books from my place and Jon's place as well, whoever you are :) In case you're not yet signed up to the BP Online boards, please feel free to create your own account and post your feedbacks on the pieces, this will help us improve the quality of subsequent volumes.

@ Kuya G., czyre_czyre & poknat_20: Thanks for buying the book, and we're glad you liked the songs (more so with the samplers Prof. Simba provided here). Pag may nagkagustong bumili ng songbook sa inyon respective parishes/area, please let us know :)

To interested contributors for Vol. 2: As mentioned earlier, we can't say when we'll be open for contributions yet, we need to meet some targets muna for Awit sa Panginoon. But just so you know...we're planning to have the next volume focused on a particular liturgical/para-liturgical season (like "Christmas") or liturgical/Biblical theme (like songs during/after weddings). We're inclined to do the season, but we don't know yet. We'll provide details when the time comes. (I decided to disclose this information to keep the composition juices flowing, para alam n'yo na kung saan kayo magfofocus and para hindi kayo magahol once we set a time frame ;) )

Cheers,

Hello everyone :D

As Jon2406 has mentioned, copies of Awit sa Panginoon are fresh from the press :D However, currently, we're still awaiting feedback from Fr. Nilo regarding our plans of having the launch at the EDSA Shrine---we were going for this not primarily because of Fr. Nilo (although that's a nice thing), but because this is at the very center of EDSA, very accessible to everyone in Metro Manila via MRT and bus ;) hehehe

Titopao,

It seems that you have already forwarded some sort of a letter asking for permission from Fr. Nilo/EDSA Shrine Coordinator regarding your songs.

Do you have any feedback from them? Froi is ok with your songs to be included in our line-up for November service (check his post at the EDSA Shrine Matters Thread). He's just worried if it will be permitted, as we all know, we need to ask their blessing first if we could deviate from the line-up/songs currently approved by them.

"Offerstory" - bagong word yan ah. hehehe. Anyway, na-visualize mo na rin ba ang isang napakagandang bride na naglalakad sa aisle papunta sa groom nya with this "offerstory" song. As the first line of the song goes "Sa Iyo alay ang lahat sa buhay ko..."

Feel free to use it Allen.

Very nice line, Prof, simply beautiful. Since it is originally intended as a song for Him, it would be too humbling to be sung this song.... Would even think twice if I'll be worthy of it :)

Just a reminder that in the union of a bride and her groom, God must always be at the center of their relationship. That the two of them becoming one will be an offering to the Lord.

No one is worthy of grace but God freely chose to give His grace despite the unworthiness of us as imperfect beings.

I've updated my signature so that the link to this thread now points to the instructions I posted on how to get "Awit sa Panginoon" :) As a side note, you can PM Jon2406 directly as he has the stocks of the songbooks (and he also keeps track), but it'll be nice to PM me too so that I can keep tabs as well ;) hehehe.

I'll still offer meet-ups (so that there'll be no more shipping price), but for the time being I can't promise this for this week and the next week, because of some family matters, will update when this might be possible. And, again, to reiterate a post I made earlier, maganda sana kung marami na, para isang hingian ako kay Jon2406 (and also para hindi mapagod yung messenger n'ya sa pagpunta sa office LOL ).

Updates re launch/recording...we're working on it, will update ASAP, as soon as more concrete plans are made :)

Dun sa mga meron na: anong composition ko yung interesado kayo na marinig yung orchestration (in MO3 format)? I know some of you will say "all of them", pero I can manage to do it one at a time po muna :)

@sjclc: OK lang ba for me to post a sampler of your "Alleluia" (without the complete choral arrangement)? :D

In fairness naman kay Moderator Niknok... its a case of using it sparingly and not a full text message.

Regarding the usage of text-speak
While we do not ban the use of text-speak (read as: we will not bust anyone's balls if caught using it), we do strongly urge people to use it sparingly

We will however, warn violators who take this to the extreme... when they use full-text-speak for every post they do.

Now, here's time for another important update: Awit sa Panginoon will be available soon at all St. Paul's bookstores nationwide! Jon2406 was able to contact St. Paul's and they agreed to distribute "Awit..." on their stores. From what I know, the first few copies have been handed over to them (tama ba, Jon? :P), so that would mean "Awit" will soon be available at your nearest St. Paul's branch 8)

We are currently working to have "Awit" distributed at another---and, for most of us here, preferred ;)---bookstore, but since negotiations are under way, I'll be unable to provide more details about this. I'll also keep you guys updated about this ;)

I have already delivered the first 100 copies of Awit sa Panginoon to St. Paul. They said it will be out on their store by next week. So for those who want to avail the long awaited songbook please go to your nearest St. Paul Bookstore.:)

I will also talk to Tanging Yaman next week, to carry the song book in their store. My apologies to everyone since this is the first time also for me to distribute a song book and took me a short time before I get an idea on how it is done. With regards to bookstores, I still have to get info on where their offices are so that I can make proposals for them to carry our song book.:)

Hello all,

I have received information from somebody that as of today (November 26, 2008), "Awit sa Panginoon" is not yet available at St. Paul's Gateway branch (aww :( ). I would presume that they have yet to receive their own stocks of ASP, and this means that in the coming days it should show up in all St. Paul's branch in the country.

However, we were told is available at St. Paul's SM Megamall :D I'm going there to personally check it out tonight (syempre anonymously ;) ) and, perhaps, post a picture of it soon 8) hehehe

The songbooks on the picture, from left to right, are:

1. Hangad (Update songbbook, 2003 edition)
2. Misa Collection 3
3. Awit sa Panginoon
4. a new songbook by Fr. Nick Sengson, SVD.

Since this is the thread about Awit sa Panginoon and not Fr. Sengson's songbook, I won't say much except that it's a new songbook (for Advent and Christmas) and has a CD inside. That's all I can say about the songbook; if you want to discuss it further, I would suggest that you guys open a new thread :)

Trivia: if you'll notice, "Awit sa Panginoon" looks like it's the biggest songbook in the shelf :) Heck, it literally dwarfs the already-big JMM songbooks; napansin ko yun kasi on that rack was also a Bukas Palad songbook (I think "The Best of BP Vol. 1 and 2" yung nasa kaliwa ng Hangad songbook, di lang abot ng cell phone camera ko :P).

I think the next logical step at this point is to come out with songbook 2. However we have agreed to work on this as soon as we are able to sell most of ASP. So please help us, by endorsing the songbook to your fellow choirs in your parish!!! Thanks!!!:)

Poknat,

A lot of people who purchased and who are planning to get the Awit sa Panginoon (ASP) Songbook had been asking me about the CD/album containing our selections. In our parish, I always end up singing some songs to them. Parang nag-live demo ba! We'll be singing the new set (ASP songs) by January 2009.

I will still be needing a producer so that the choir and other vocalists may finally record my compositions in a studio. I cannot speak for the other composers in the book, but if they would like their works recorded I suggest that proper coordination be carried out. Just like what Jon2406 said, wala pang choir na magre-record but a number of groups who were able to listen to the MP3 orchestration of my selections already expressed their interest in recording the songs. I'm still keeping my options open regarding this.

First of all thank you for all the midis that you upload in the Request section. You were so proactive and accommodating that even before a request is post, you have already made it available. We really appreciate it.

As one of the onliners here, i will forever be proud of the AWIT SA PANGINOON songbook. I feel that this is one of the milestones of BP Online Community.

Thanks too, it so nice of you to quickly notice our posts and appreciate them with utmost immediacy. We’re blessed to be acquainted with you not only as our board Super Moderator but also as a friend.

Likewise, I pray that we continue working for the success of our efforts here in the community as we endlessly glorify God in all our endeavors

I got my copy last night, I bought it at St. Paul's Megamall. nice packaging.

have some comments lang whcih might be helpful in the next printing or on the next songbook:

1. Maganda yung paper, kaya lang nakakatakot buklatin, LOL, pagtumutugtog ka na ng Piano tapos ililipat mo na page, kailangan dahan dahan para hindi malukot, he he he, just my opinion, I think it would be better if hindi ganoon ka glossy yung paper, maibababa pa price if less glossy ang gamitin.

2. Sa introduction and Preface my conflict na info en, sa intro 2003 nag start yung community while sa preface 2002 (which is the correct year) another is yung number of members magkaiba rin (though dapat 7,000+++ lang), not to mention the size of the fonts ( mas better siguro kung uniform ang text size, as much as possible)

3. napansin ko lang iba-iba yung format ng piyesa, like for instance, yung format ng pagsulat ng compposer,"music by, musika ni, etc... I saw this sa mga tagalog compositions, it seems tuloy iba-iba ang gumawa ng piyesa.

4. I like the size, cover page and the quality of printing.

5. Generally, maganda yung songbook kahit na first venture pa lang ito, galing!! (sali ako next time ha?, he he he)

Hi, jon2406!

Galing ako St. Paul Ali Mall Cubao yesterday and it was really good to see na available na rin sa branch nila yung ASP.

I asked them kung mayron pang nakatagong stocks. But at least it was good to know na talagang nabibili yung mga songbooks. AND IM REALLY HAPPY TO KNOW that... Sana marami pang mga tao ang tumangkilik ng AWIT SA PANGINOON songbook liban sa ating mga onliners.

Thanks to everyone for your continued support on this project. I hope you enjoyed reading (and looking ;) ) at the songbook (yeah, I agree, maski ako natatakot akong buklatin copy ko :P ) I appreciate hearing your comments and suggestions...we'll keep them in mind and incorporate them for the next edition or next volume of ASP.

Speaking of....

In the light of the progress we're making with the songbook, we're keen on coming up with Volume 2 :D I can't provide specifics for now, but given that we already did Vol. 1, we now know how to make production of Vol. 2 more streamlined and faster. The original composers in Vol. 1 will need to meet up again regarding this, but given that pare-pareho kaming busy this Christmas, we might be able to do that after the Christmas season na. What I can say for now are these (based on my conversation with Jon2406:

* we'll permit more songs in English---currently, Vol. 1 only has one English song.
* the theme will likely centered on Holy Week----including Lent and Easter.

I've decided to let out these information, to give more time for the composers and arrangers to work on pieces and perhaps collaborate with other onliners :) (Wag lang po muna sa akin, at least for this month. I have my hands full :P) Submissions will not be accepted at this time, I just let this information out to give everyone enough time to write, rewrite, arrange, rearrange and criticize their own pieces (and perhaps also come up with their own killer accompaniments, too ;) hehehe)

To address the issue of uniform layout, I will later provide templates for Vol. 2. The template will most likely be layouts for SATB, SATB + Piano (either as rehearsal or as accompaniment, SA + TB (and also a version w/ piano), and perhaps another SATB + Piano with an extra stave for an extra solo instrument (such as flute or violin). What if your piece doesn't fit the bill? Easy: I'll provide a style guide/style specs ;) I'll make the templates available here or (baka mas maganda) on a separate website made just for the songbooks :)

What if you're not a Finale user, or if your piece is handwritten? We'll address these concerns, too. I'll provide details and guidelines later :)

What about issues regarding doctrine and liturgical guidelines? Good question. I'll also provide details and resources later :)

Regarding the production of a CD, we're also keen on doing that. Siguro, the earliest we can update on that is after the Christmas season, isasama na namin yun sa agenda for the next meeting.

Muli, maraming salamat sa inyong suporta :D

@ Titopao,

Sana makasali na ko sa Vol.2....:nice:

May screening process ba sa pagselect ng songs?
I mean considering the melody and the lyrics of the songs?

titopao

Good point :)

Yes, with regard to the pieces, we do listen to the music and also read the lyrics. Each and every one of them ;)

Icaclarify ko pa yung magiging guidelines and standards for this edition, but just to sum up: for the music, it should be at least singable by the congregation in order to be considered under the category of liturgical songs. (That is, ask yourself if it's a song that ten or more parish priests from anywhere in the country would permit to be sung. And also ask yourself if your grandmother can sing it :P )

For this edition, I am open to allow songs that don't necessarily mean they should be performed in the mass, sa tingin ko OK naman din ang mga presentation songs (e.g. pupwedeng gawing pang-presentatino sa parokya) or reflective songs (e.g. yung mga songs na pupwedeng pang-retreat or pang-recollection), but you can expect that we'll be somewhat stricter when it comes to songs for the mass. Keep in mind that most liturgical guidelines about music almost always apply to the Holy Mass, to the Liturgy of the Hours and almost every other liturgy you can think of.)

For the lyrics, ang prime consideration is that the lyrics should not contradict any Church doctrine or theology. It's a given anyway, and having your lyrics checked is as simple as having a couple of priests read through the words (maganda rin if you can get a theology teacher from a nearby seminary do that...and if you did just that, do let us know which priest checked the lyrics, we'd like to give them credit, too :D). But I also like to see something that is well-thought out and, of course, well-written...I mean, none of that stuff that, say, a person who has downed 20 bottles of Red Horse or San Miguel Beer might write (okay, that was an exaggeration, I only said that to illustrate a point :P). Kumbaga sa pop music, you want to read something that was written by Mr. C and not by Moy Moy Palaboy LOL (Btw, I really think Moy Moy Palaboy is a great parody duo, no offense to them.)

Hope this helps :)

Things like this make my blood boil...so, apparently, Catholics, Orthodox Christians and Anglicans are not "Christian" enough for them?!?!? :rage:

That kind of thinking only shows how selective they are in using the term "Christian" and how myopic their vision is...apparently, you are only a "Christian" if you belong to their church and (more importantly) you contribute to the coffers of their yacht-sailing pastors? :rage::rage::rage:

Anyways, back to topic :P

Based on the phone conversation we had with Jon2406, sales of ASP seems to be picking up. Many, many thanks to those who have bought their copies of ASP and supported this community-led initiative :D

Now, on to the real reason why I'm posting:

Lately, there is a surge of new faces who contributes their materials to the boards. Now, I'm putting the question back to the community:

What topic/theme/liturgical season do you want to be in Book 2? 8)

Yes, Book 2 :) Discussion is open-ended, no need to tally votes or anything. I just want to hear your sentiments on this. So feel toxic, suggest na kayo! :D

Yes, yes and yes 8)

Actually, kumukuha pa lang kami ni Jon2406 ng mga ideas for the next book. Naisip kasi namin na ang next edition ay dapat naka-ayon sa isang liturgical season naman or isang common theme. The main idea is, ano yung kailangang itampok sa next book? Mga awiting pang-adbiyento/pamasko/pangkwaresma? Mga awit para sa kasal? Mga Marian songs? Mga awiting nakasalalay sa tema ng pag-asa, pananalig at pag-ibig (hope, faith and love)?

You can provide other ideas, suggestions are very much welcome :D Pero maganda sana kung naka-focus sa kung ano yung nakikita ng mga onliners na pangangailangan nila in terms of repertoire (like, "gusto namin ng mga pwedeng ipalit sa 'Halina Hesus.Halina' kapag advent" :P ). Gusto ko kasing doon i-base yung magiging guidelines with regard to the lyrics.

Hopefully, before the year ends, the presses will start rolling again ;)

titopao.... Latin Songs kaya?

On the other hand since Book 1 were focused on mass response, why not focus on Responsorial Psalms (taken from the Lectionary of course) and make a compilation of the most common muna... yung palaging lumalabas pag Sundays....

titopao
09.04.22, 10:32 AM
Actually...pinag-iisipan naming i-allow ang compositions in Tagalog and English. Latin is a good idea...actually, plano ko ding mag-compose ng isang Latin song in the future ;)

Regarding responsorial psalms...parang hindi muna siguro advisable na gawing puro responsorial psalms kasi, among other things, may nilabas si Fr. Nick Sengson SVD na book of responsorial psalms din. Ang una kong naibalita noon ay para sa Advent/Christmas, pero weeks before Holy Week, meron din s'yang nilabas na book for Lent/Easter. (At dahil jan, I'm sure susunod na dun yung rest of Ordinary time until Christ the King LOL). In other words: baka kasi sabihin na ginagaya natin si Fr. Nick or something, so siguro next time na lang natin i-try gawin 'yun :)

Yes, yun din ang idea ko...kung hindi man on a particular liturgical season, then the songs should at least focus on a central theme. Of course, with the end goal that most of the finished products are suitable for use in the mass (as in, the Entrance, Offertory, Communion and Recessional songs) ;)

Just some points I wish to share for the second songbook:

1. At present we are only distributing the books with St. Paul, that is limited only on Metro Manila. If we are pushing with book 2 let us hope that we could tap other distribution points for the books. e.g. Tanging Yaman, Don Bosco....

As far as I can surmise, this bookstores have a high demand for songbooks. Irregardless of what theme or content they may have included in the book.

2. I agree with Tito Pao that feed backs are necessary to improve the next songbook. However I wish that they need to be specific about their comments, to allow the contributors to improve there compositions and to ensure the buyers to could get their money's worth on the next songbook. :)

3. Recording the songs will help the buyers of the songbook understand our compositions.

4. I expect more collaboration and involvement with next songbook team in terms of screening, production and marketing of the songbook.:)

With regards to concept of songbook 2. I wish that mass songs still needs to be included both on english and tagalog as first half of songbook 2 with inspirational songs on the second half.

Is it a requirement to introduce myself in the meet market? And I believe not posting in meet market doesn't imply any rudeness or kindness.
I don't want to be specific pero katulad nga nung sinabi ni titopao sa pagiging beginners, yung kay lester delgado lang at kay prof.simba, in my opinion, is creative enough to be on that songbook. The rest, para sakin, parang "pilit" yung mga tono or sobrang common na.

I apologize if you don't like my comments pero don't bother na lang coz I still believe that we have different opinions.

And regarding sa sales ng songbook, lahat naman ng bagong songbooks na lumalabas talagang you can expect that it has a market e. Kasi music ministries are really looking for something new. I just find some of the songs in this songbook na not worth being included.

@katamaridamacy

I find it inexplicable that while you were all out in providing your feedback, you were exactly vague as to what you were looking. How do you expect us to respond to such ambiguous statements?

What were your expectations exactly, if you mind explaining? That is, if you still have the motivation to do that. I am unclear as to your willingness to provide constructive critiques.

For my own part, I don't mind the comments and I don't give a damn because I deliberately toned down my own works, to come up with something that would be considered "safe" for use in the mass. In case you were not looking around at the BP Online messageboards, one of the often-discussed topics is when priests or music ministries ban certain types of songs that are too "showy", too "concert"-y or to "modern" to their ears. You can find here someone reporting about a priest "banning" or prohibiting songs by, say, the JMM because they sound inappropriate for the mass, and on the other hand there are some priests who are equally averse with Latin hymns. In the discussions for the creation of this songbook, that was one of the main reasons put forth in coming up with the compilation. We wanted to come up with a collection that will at least become acceptable in the liturgy, keeping in mind how some dioceses are ultra-strict with regard to the music ministries.

If that was not what you were looking, fine. Tell us what you need: are you looking for choral pieces along the lines of Palestrina's "Missa Papa Marcelli", of Mozart's "Requiem", of Beethoven's "Missa Solemnis", of Bruckner's Masses, of Ryan Cayabyab's Missa 2000? Were you looking something along the lines of Sergei Rachmaninoff, John Rutter, Morten Lauridsen, or Eric Whitacre? Or Robert Delgado, Christopher Borela, John Pamintuan, Nilo Alcala or Jude Balsamo? Or David Haas and Mart Haugen? Or were you expecting something along the lines of Hillsong?

Here at the BP Online Community, we welcome everyone with open arms and help each other out in their concerns and problems about the music ministry. Someone doesn't know what songs to sing in the next mass, we give suggestions. Someone experiences serious choir management problems, we analyze them and tell them how to best resolve those problems. (We even provide advice on non-music/non-church matters.) Someone needs feedback on his/her own choir's performance, we diagnose problems and tell them how to make the performance sound better next time. Someone shares his/her own arrangement (whether sheet music or MIDI/MP3 recordings), we encourage the person to write more music and at the same time provide hints on how to improve and hone their craft. In other words, we try to make life better for everyone else here.

This is the environment that most of the onliners have entered themselves into, and this is the environment that we have welcomed them, and this is the environment that makes them come back. Everyone is family here. We are not like PinoyExchange.com where many (if not all users) are notorious for venting out their angst and for engaging in pointless online wars against fellow members, that is not what you will find here. Nobody asked you to sign up here, and yet we welcome you with good faith, and encourage you to join us in the same spirit that sustained this online community. I hope you understand that.

PS. I also find it unusual that among the composers you cited was Lester Delgado..even though he was unable to submit additional pieces due to several constraints. Very, very unusual.

@katamaridamacy

I am with titopao. To come up with a compilation that is accesible even to the untrained choirs are very hard. Put in mind that not all parishes have the musical resources to have a good choir that can execute the type of music that you seem to imply. The idea is just simple. It is about what is acceptable and accessible. Masses by composers that were mentioned by titopao are all serious music and worthy of merit; however, how many choirs can perform them and is it still allowable in the liturgy?

This is a helping community. It has been pointed out there are many generous people here on the community who unselfishly shared'shares their knowledge and expertise. The "Awit sa Panginoon songbook" is among the product of that unselfish giving of the members of the community.

Sincerely,

theusII
