- About the Arranger -

RONALDO J. RAZ

In 1997, Ronald entered the University of Santo Tomas Conservatory of Music Major in Voice under Professor Irma Potenciano but his passion for choral music drove him to shift in Conducting under the tutelage of Professor Ricardo Mazo Jr.

Raz, as his colleagues call him, was a member of Coro Tomasino (the official choir of the UST Conservatory of Music) from 1997 to 2005. He had the chance to lead the group as head conductor during the 2005 UST Conservatory of Music Summer Camp which took place in Laoag, Ilocos Norte.

Inspired by other arrangers and composers, Ronald took chance of arranging songs for his choirs. One of his first arrangements was "Warrior is a Child" performed by the Sta. Teresita Parish Chorale during the Colors of Worship Chorale Festival organized by the Manila Chamber Singers. From then on, other arrangements followed. He also had the chance to compose Act 1 and 2 of the musical play entitled, "Elias at Salome" which was staged at the Philamlife Auditorium and at the MAPUA Institute of Technology in 2006.

At present, Ronald is a member of the Philippine Choral Directors Association (PCDA). He is the musical director and conductor of the Sta. Teresita Parish Chorale (STPC) where he was able to lead the group in various competitions, concerts and festivals both locally and internationally. He teaches music at Pasig Catholic College High School Department and holds Solfeggio and Chrous Class at the Institute for Liturgical Music in San Carlos Seminary under Fr. Nilo Mangussad.

Ronald is also the voice coach/facilitator of the GMA Artist Center for Workshops since it started in 2007. Conductor of various choral groups namely: One Voice Vocal Ensemble, the official choir of the UST Faculty of Engineering, San Roque de Manila Parish Chorale and the PCC High School Glee Club. I didn't know there's a songbook such as this. Saan mabibili ang songbook na ito? Kasi, it doesn't look like even though it's copyrighted it's as widely available as mass songbooks.

Since Mr. Raz is teaching Solfeggio Class for the AILM's Basic Course for Liturgical Music at Our Lady of Guadalupe Minor Seminary, you can pay a visit every Saturday from 1-5pm until February. I will try to post other relevant informations as to the availability of the songbook when I had the chance to attend the class next Saturday.
