Hi Everybody,

"Consider the Lilies" is a song composed by Roger Hoffman and
sung by the Mormon Tabernacle Choir (can be viewed in the youtube).

I just want to ask any opinion if it safe to sing during the communion in the Catholic Church. I intend to teach the song to the choir of our chapel.

Thanks in advance.

For reference, I found a copy of the lyrics on this website (http://foreverloyal.com/CONSIDER_THE_LILIES.html). Here's how the lyrics go:

Consider the lilies of the field,
How they grow, how they grow.
Consider the birds in the sky,
How they fly, how they fly.

He clothes the lilies of the field.
He feeds the birds in the sky.
And He will feed those who trust Him,
And guide them with His eye.

Consider the sheep of His fold,
How they follow where He leads.
Though the path may wind across the mountains,
He knows the meadows where they feed.

He clothes the lilies of the field.
He feeds the birds in the sky,
And He will feed those who trust Him,
And guide them with His eye.

Consider the sweet, tender children
Who must suffer on this earth.
The pains of all of them He carried
From the day of His birth.

He clothes the lilies of the field,
He feeds the lambs in His fold,
And He will heal those who trust Him,
And make their hearts as gold.

which, in turn, was taken from Matthew 6 (quoted from the Vatican's website) (http://www.vatican.va/archive/ENG0839/__PVF.HTM) at around verses 25-33:

[Jesus said:] "Therefore I tell you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat (or drink), or about your body, what you will wear. Is not life more than food and the body more than clothing? Look at the birds in the sky; they do not sow or reap, they gather nothing into barns, yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are not you more important than they? Can any of you by worrying add a single moment to your life-span? Why are you anxious about clothes? Learn from the way the wild flowers grow. They do not work or spin. But I tell you that not even Solomon in all his splendor was clothed like one of them. If God so clothes the grass of the field, which grows today and is thrown into the oven tomorrow, will he not much more provide for you, O you of little faith? So do not worry and say, 'What are we to eat?' or 'What are we to drink?' or 'What are we to wear?' All these things the pagans seek. Your heavenly Father knows that you need them all. But seek first the kingdom (of God) and his righteousness, and all these things will be given you besides.

From what I can gather here, there's nothing in the song that would be against Catholic theology. "Consider the Lilies" look like a direct adaptation of a passage from St. Matthew. So...maybe it's safe to sing it in the communion, especially if the Gospel is from the Sermon on the Mount. Nagkataon lang siguro na yung nasa Youtube ay mga Mormons yung kumakanta (and the Mormons' best choir at that), pero wala akong makitang reason para hindi ito bumagay sa misa :)

Thanks again.
