May tanong ako, hoping u kud help.
Kanina ang choir was elderly, tapos inamin naman nila na hindi sila nakapag-practice ng any advent song.
Nagadvice aq dat dey sing Sa Hapag ng Panginoon. Bata pa lang ako, I have always felt it was the safest entrance song, meaning, you can't go wrong with it, it's okay for any mass, dahel it's about the Mass.
Two people, however, called my attention to say that bawal ang sa hapag... I didn't get the complete sentence, but it was about a certain instance or occasion na bawal ang sa hapag.
Would anybody know of any instance when Sa Hapag would be inaappropri8? Am I right or wrong in my notion that Sa Hapag is the entrance song dat would fit in absolutely any Mass?

Siguro dahil hindi fit sa advent yung entrance song na "Sa Hapag ng Panginoon". Sa hapag kasi more of parang it pertains dun sa "last supper" e ang theme ngayon is Preparation for the coming of God. Para sa akin ang message niya is more of sa lent...

I agree with you JR. Ang sabi sa GIRM, entrance maybe a gathering song, an entrance antiphon from the Sacramentary, or any song proper 2 the season. Gathering song na man ang "Sa hapag".

Ako din I totally agree with JR..
While it's true that the song speaks about the last supper..di naman ito ibig sabhin eh pang lent na ito kasi every Eucharistic celebration is a commemoration of the ceremony of Jesus during the last supper..(the institution of the Eucharist) which we all are invited to share and re-live every time a mass is said so perfect and safest ang Sa Hapag ng Panginoon as an all-season entrance song.. para sakin..
I hope mag-share din ang mga experts dito sa board about this, I'd like to hear more wisdom about the appropriate use of this song :)

The only instances that I can think of when "Sa Hapag..." is not appropriate is, perhaps on a funeral mass (common sense lang :) ) and maybe even the Easter Triduum, when there are antiphons that are strongly recommended to be sung for the entrance hymn or (in the case of Good Friday and Black Saturday) when the liturgy itself does not have an entrance song. (Kung di ako nagkakamali, diretso na kaagad sa prayers ang Black Saturday, there is no room for an entrance hymn there).
Otherwise, I don't understand the logic of people who say that just because it's Advent, you can't play "Sa Hapag...". The GIRM was very explicit in which songs are to be permitted in the entrance songs and, if you read it carefully, it actually gives musical directors a wider choice on what songs to play. Obviously, those who think otherwise do not know (or may haven't even heard) of the GIRM and Musicam Sacram, and they need to be educated so that they may see the error of their ways :P

natatandaan ko din noong unang panahon noong bata pa kami ni Alex, umattend kami liturgical music workshop kay Fr. Arnel with some Hangad members...and that time advent season ang entrance namin Sa Hapag ng Panginoon na pinili pa ng mga participants. :)
