hi guys.. the "Dakilang Jubileo" ng Malolos is being enforced by our priest to be sung as a recessional song. It is quite slower than the usual recessional songs out there.

For those who are familiar with it, just want to ask if it is really an appropriate recessional song? To be honest, we are more fond of singing "Magpasalamat sa Kanya" by BP.

Maganda ang kanta na yan, lalo na nung celebration ng Year of the Great Jubilee ng 2000. Paborito rin namin dati, pero parang di na sya angkop sa lalo na pag kinanta mo ang lines na

"Panahon ng dakilang saya" or "It's the time of the Great Jubilee" kasi ang Jubilee ay kadalasang ginaganap once in every 50 years na kakantahin mo lang talaga dahil napaka special ng pagdiriwang; for that case, the Jubilee Year nga.

It's just like singing Happy Birthday for the whole year at pag dating ng araw talaga ng birthday mo, hindi na masarap pakinggan at parang wala ng saysay kasi nagsawa ka na.

My two centavos.

@Alex: Ibang "Jubileo" yung tinutukoy ni tazmania :P Golden/50th anniversary kasi ng Diocese of Malolos, and to commemorate the event, they commissioned Fr. GBoy Samonte (or was it Fr. Allan Antonio?) to write a new song. Ang pamagat nun ay, unfortunately, the same title as that other song titled "Dakilang Jubileo", which is what you were referring too :)

@Tazmania: I've never been a fan of the DCLM and their song choices, so...I just don't care :P hehehe. Narinig ko na rin ito nung minsang nauwi ako uli ng Bulacan and...it wasn't that bad. Just not outstanding. And just that, it is too slow for a recessional song.

Kung nabubuhay lang si Fr. Rey Magnaye, I'm sure he could have composed a better song that is much suited for the recessional. Remember that he co-wrote "Awit ng Pagpapanibago" which was intended for the diocese's short-lived "Renew" program (hence, the other title "Awit ng Renew") but....look at the song, it survived the Renew program and yet the song is still suited as a communion/recessional song, nakakainspire pakinggan.

Ewan ko kung ano ang policy sa inyong parokya or kung amenable ang kura paroko ninyo na hindi kayo sumunod. Pero, if you can manage it, then sing something more appropriate for the recessional Kaysa naman sa hinog sa pilit yung pagkanta ninyo, mas pangit naman yun ;)

@Titopao - I am not a fan of that song too but then our priest approached me after the mass yesterday and told me that we should start singing the Jubileo by next week. It seems that we dont have a choice but to follow. :(

by the way, the initial part of the chorus sounds like a GMA kapuso jingle. :P

@tazmania: Mismo...parang may kahawig nga :P hehehe,

It was bad enough/less-than-outstanding when I first heard it being sung in a mass. Pero nung mapanood ko yung MTV, in the version that Fr. GBoy presumably intended it and arranged it...I don't know, hindi ko pa rin siya gusto LOL

As a rule of thumb, enforcing specially-commissioned "theme songs" for a parish or arch-/diocese is a bad idea. Lalo na kung pinipilit pakanta ng music ministry. Wala pa akong narinig na theme song na nag-work except, perhaps, for a (quasi-)traditional theme song in one of my relative's home province.

In one parish that I know of, the music ministry ordered that all choirs should sing the official theme song of their arch-/diocese (I won't say which one) as their entrance song (and another song---by the same composer---as the recessional), under threat of suspension or expulsion. Of course maraming umalma, especially with the kind of song that they were asked to sing, and maraming naging negative feedbacks yung mga choirs na kumanta ng nasabing theme song. Eventually, even the choir of the music ministry's head had to stop singing those theme songs...last time I heard hindi na kinakanta ang kahit na aling theme song ng kahit na sinong choir sa nasabing parokya :P
