I think One Thing I Ask is a fitting song. We sometimes sing it as an entrance hymn for the funeral mass--solemn but not heavy. In our parish, after the priest has sprinkled holy water on the remains, friends and relatives line up for the floral offering and final viewing. I play How Lovely is Your Dwelling Place, which I think has appropriate lyrics too, instead of the usual Hindi Kita Malilimutan. Unfortunately here, Hindi Kita Malilimutan, which is a beautiful musical setting of passages from Isaiah 49, has had a stigma of being a "kantang para sa patay" when in its original context it is God himself who speaks of his faithfulness to his people through the prophet.

i remembered when i was a little, i love the song "Hindi Kita Malilimutan" popularized by Basil Valdez (i'm his fan!) but my family won't let me play it because it was "daw" a song for the dead... sigh... a very beautiful song... yet stigmatized as "para sa patay..."
