Folks, how do i know if im already somewhat "well" enough to be able to pass the conservatory's guitar audition.

I know some on theory. And im a bass player.

Ano po ba yung example ng pwedeng i-audition na song na may chance na makapasa?

Di ko sure kung ano-ano ang mga nasa repertoire list ng UST, but in case you're interested, here's what UP Diliman's Abelardo Hall (Conservatory of Music) is requiring for prospective guitar majors:

I. Departmental Audition Requirements for STRINGS

A. Major and minor scales and arpeggios in three octaves (for Violin, Viola, Cello and Double Bass),
in two octaves open and close position (for Guitar)
B. Sight-reading
C. Violin Undergraduates:
One (1) Movement (with cadenza) of a concerto by Bach, Hydn, or Mozart, and a contrasting piece or etude by Kayser or Dont
Viola and Cello Undergraduates:
Two (2) Contrasting Movements of a standard Concerto or Sonata and an etude by Kayser or Dont
(for Violists), Dotzauer (for cellists)
Doubles Bass:
Two (2) Contrasting pieces of applicant's choice, Two (2) Orchestral excerpts.
Guitar:
Three (3) pieces from the following: A contrapuntal work written between Circa 1550-1750, a theme with variations, a dance movement, a work or movement(s) written after 1900 (either western or Filipino)

I'm sure hindi nalalayo dito ang requirements ng UST, if ever. Maski naman sa mga websites ng ibang mga foreign conservatories, may hawig dito yung makikita mong repertoire list, so try to familiarize yourself with the major composers and major pieces in the entire classical guitar repertoire. Sor, Carcassi, Tarrega, and even Bach and Scarlatti are your best friends

Not quite.

Wala naman silang nirerequire na specific piece from any specific composer or any specific period. Kung FOR AUDITION ka na, most likely andun na yung requirement sa result form ng USTET mo.

@sjclc: Teka, ibig mo bang sabihin, sa UST, malalaman mo na lang yung required pieces pag nakuha mo yung USTET results mo? Gaano katagal naman ang gap period between yung release ng results at ng audition schedule?

pagkakaalam ko sa kakilala kong taga music, any classical piece lang ang requirement. walang particular piece.

usually january nirerelease yung results ng USTET and april-may yung audition.

Hmm...now that is interesting. Napaisip tuloy ako kung ano yung pinaka-basic na pyesang pang-guitar na ginamit sa audition at pumasa...meron kayang pumasa na ang ginamit ay yung Spanish Romanza?

may kilala akong nakapasa using Minuet in G by Bach. Piano major naman yun. Kasi IMHO tinitingnan lang ng conservatory if you are able to learn and the rest of the learning takes place inside the conservatory (which it should be, since if the student is already a knowledgeable performer from the beginning the conservatory should just be called a 'practice zone' )

may instrument bang classical guitar? acoustic guitar po ata. kasi if you are majoring in guitar, classical guitar po ang pag-aaralan niyo, hindi lang bass.

BTW, the conservatory offers two degrees: BME (Music Education) and BM (Music). The BM takes longer and is more performance aimed while BME is aimed at, well, teaching music in a certain concentration. :p

dimasalang, basta may alam kang kahit simple classical guitar piece para sa audition mo plus factor mo na yun, d naman nagbabagsak ang UST eh, yung student ko nga nagulat yung prof ng tumugtog ng classical guitar piece, samantalang yung mga nauna sa kanya puro chords lang ang pinang audition pero nakapasa.
