Lord, Have Mercy (Kyrie, Eleison)

Lyrics

PRESIDER/CANTOR
You were sent to heal the contrite of heart,
Kyrie, eleison.

ALL
Kyrie, eleison.

PRESIDER/CANTOR
You came to call sinners all,
Christe, eleison.

ALL
Christe, eleison.

PRESIDER/CANTOR
You are seated at the right hand of the Father to intercede for us, to intercede for us,
Kyrie, eleison.

ALL
Kyrie, eleison.

Words from the Penitential Act - Form C

Music by Manoling Francisco, SJ
Arrangement by Palan Reyes
Featuring Fr. Art Borja, SJ

The "Kyrie" is sung antiphonally between the presider/deacon and the congregation. While the invocations are in English, the dialogical responses are in Greek, "Kyrie, eleison" and "Christe, eleison". This plaintive Kyrie, sung with the priest or cantor, underscores our need for God, who, to ransom a slave, gave away his Son.
