Lord of Salvation

Lyrics

We give you praise, O God of all creation.
Our minds delight in the wonder of our world.
We long for you, O Lord of Salvation.
Through humankind, your glory is revealed.

We hope in you, O God of all redemption.
Our hearts still burn for the fullness of your love.
We long for you, O Lord of Salvation.
Come give us peace on earth as up above.

We trust that you are our sanctification.
Our spirits yearn for all that's good and true.
We long for you, O Lord of Salvation.
When all is done, O bring us home to you.

We long for you, O Lord of salvation.
When all is done, O bring us home to you.

Lord of Salvation is a general entrance song for celebrations in the Ordinary Time. The song is directed to the Most Blessed Trinity. It speaks of our praise and glory to God the Fatheras Creator, to Jesus as Savior and Redeemer, and to the Holy Spirit as Sanctifier.

Each verse of the song is directed to each person of the Triune God. Thus, Lord of Salvation is also markedly appropriate to be used in the Solemnity of the Most Holy Trinity, celebrated on the Sunday after Pentecost. While many of us still observe the lamentable practice of limiting the singing of hymns to the first two verses of the song, this ought to be avoided in this hymn. The structure and content of Lord of Salvation requires that it be sung in full to emphasize its Trinitarian value.
